This blog is supposed to be about all sorts of things but, shall we say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a minor interest of mine.

I didn't invent the term. I'm a copycat. What else could it be called? The Sweaty O? Hmm, maybe not. The Circle of O? The Hands of O? Or maybe it was just a spell.

The whole episode is full of naughty things and the Nether Realms are a particular favourite, so to speak.

The "What's a stevedore?" line is one of my BtVS highlights. But really, the whole episode is full of wonderful stuff.

Ohhhhh! "Passage to the Nether Realm." I just got that. OK, so I'm almost 24 and still pretty naive.

This episode is definitely a season four favorite, even though it leads to sanctimonious and downright unlikable Buffy in "Sanctuary." However, I'm always slightly annoyed by the TV conceit that one's closest friends and family don't realize that a body switch happened. Especially when Faith is being about as discreet as a foghorn in some scenes. At least Tara notices.

SMG does a great job as Faith; she has fantastic mimicking skills as she proves again in seasons five and six in her portrayal of the Buffybot. Yes, Eliza Dushku's performance doesn't stand out as much as SMG's, but to be fair Buffy doesn't have many obvious mannerisms like Faith does. Buffy puts her hands on her hips a lot when she is speechifying and crosses her arms for various reasons. That's all I can think of offhand. Buffy also spends half of this episode tied up or semi-conscious, which means that Eliza doesn't have as much obviously Buffy dialogue as SMG has Faith dialogue. I think Eliza rocks her conversation with ASH, giving especially the "What's a stevedore?" line an SMG delivery.

SMG doesn't wear leather pants quite as well as Eliza Dushku does.

OK, but why a "flaming" O? There isn't any fire. I would call it a sparkly O because of the lights. I admit that when I first saw this episode I didn't quite realize the sexual connotation of the spell (I remember thinking, "Huh. That spell is a lot of work.") or how graphic Faith's conversation with Spike is. I was 16 and very naive. Now that I'm, um, more informed, I'm amazed that they got away with both of those things, especially in the same episode.

I really like Amber's performance in this episode. She is very endearing and it's nice that she got to be the intuitive one. I love her delivery of "Plus, she was, um, she was kind of mean." It's so sweet.

“Damn it, man! We have to get inside! Our, uh, uh, families are-are in there! Our, uh, m-mothers and-and tiny, tiny babies!” Ha! Not just babies, and not just tiny babies, but tiny, tiny babies. I'll say it again. Ha! That's some brilliant comic delivery.
