This blog is supposed to be about all sorts of things but, shall we say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a minor interest of mine.

I've just watched this episode again (twice) and I have to say it is definitely one of my favourites. As you say, a lot of the plot is advanced in this episode - Spike and Buffy getting it on, Tara finding out Willow has wiped her mind and Buffy revealing the truth about her death. Each song also highlights exactly where Also, I love musicals and well done choreography.
Xander summoning the demon makes no sense. There is no hint that he summoned it and why wouldn't he own up earlier when he knows people are dying? That's unlike him. So yes, your suggestion does make sense.
I didn't notice the lack of dress rufflage, but now that you've pointed it out, hmm, dodgy. I blame the network.

I thought that Xander being at fault was just weak writing in a great episode but I do like that interesting and intriguing idea. Though, of course, it does mean that Dawn was never called to account either.

That dress sure isn’t being ruffled.

That bugged me too. How hard would it have been to bunch up the dress just a bit?

And I agree with you about Xander's summoning and the WTF? about Giles sending Buffy out alone when Dawn is at risk. As far as the Xander thing goes, I assume he didn't actually summon Sweet, and was just taking the blame to save Dawn when she tried to lie her way out of trouble. That makes more sense to me than Xander knowing what was going on from the beginning and playing dumb.
