This blog is supposed to be about all sorts of things but, shall we say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a minor interest of mine.

Actually, I find Spike's "sinewy" body to be quite appealing. He's fit. He's skinny, yes, but not everyone likes beefy guys. Beefy guys make me gag.

"Willow goes off the rails and almost derails Buffy the Vampire Slayer along with her."

Well put. For me, this is where everything fell apart. In retrospect, this episode was appropriately named ... it wrecked Willow, wrecked the season and to a large extent wrecked the remainder of the series.

The frustrating thing is, it looked like the writers had been building a potentially interesting "power corrupts" story around Willow early in the season -- and then just bagged it in favor of turning Willow into a crack addict.

You echo some of my thoughts exactly. I don't mind the idea of season 6 per se. Willow as villain is an interesting idea, but having it be a magic addiction just seems silly. I find the Amy element to be absolutely horrifying (as I do with every single incarnation of her from the first cheerleader episode thru Season 8).

I don't find the Buffy/Spike stuff as viscerally unpleasant as you seem to, though I totally see where you're coming from.
